» Introduction\r\nOver the last two decades, there were an increasing number of postgraduate qualifications in community medicine & other related specialties from SMSB or other similar institutes. Equally, there was an increase in the number of medical education institutes & faculties, where a good number of community physicians were involved as staff members, without having enough training to deal with evolution in medical education. There is a real need for training on research guided towards solution of local health problems in community medicine, mother & child health & leadership at the same time qualifications of newly specialized physicians to fill various posts in the growing universities.\r\n \r\n \r\n» Goals of PhD in Public Health\r\nTo organize a specialist programme for full training & qualification of young community physicians, obstetricians & pediatricians in research & medical education in community medicine.\r\n \r\n \r\n» Objectives of PhD in Public Health\r\n A candidate is able to initiate & conduct a scientific research with following criteria:-\r\nSolving a problem or answering a question in community medicine & public health, obstetrics & gynecology, child health & leadership in the community or at health service providers.\r\nSolving a problem or answering a question in medical education, training & evaluation with innovation in community medicine & public health.\r\nUtilizing the available resources for conducting a good research.\r\n \r\n \r\n» Admission for PhD in Public Health\r\nCandidate should be qualified as a community physician, clinical obstetrician & gynecologist & pediatrician at SMSB or any other similar institutions.\r\nCandidate should be registered as a specialist in community medicine, obstetrics & gynecology or child health at SMC registrar or any other equivalent council. \r\n \r\n \r\n» Regulation for PhD in Public Health\r\nRegulation for admission, registration, supervision, duration of the study, residence, evaluation, submission of a thesis & certification are consistent with regulation of medical specialization board of Omdurman Islamic University.\r\nA candidate has to attend an internal course of advanced study on research for a period of four weeks.\r\nAfter submission & approval of the title of the thesis, it will not be changed without permission of the research committee.\r\nFor preparation & writing of a thesis detailed guidelines are to be followed & will be provided by the registrar.\r\nThesis should focus on a priority subject relevant to maternal & peri-natal mortality & morbidity or innovation in medical education in obstetrics & gynecology.\r\nIf a successful candidate publishes his thesis for MD in community medicine in Omdurman Islamic University, or part of it, he should mention that at an appropriate place in his publication.\r\nRetrospective studies are not accepted for this MD thesis.\r\nDescriptive studies can be accepted in particular conditions, if really propose for intervention.\r\n \r\n \r\n» Time frame for MD in Community Medicine\r\nDuration, minimum of two years & maximum of five years.\r\nIntroductory course for conducting & writing a thesis, two weeks\r\n a- Introduction to research.\r\n b- Research methodology.\r\n c- Study design.\r\n d- Literature review, electronic search & critical appraisal, \r\n e- Data collection & sampling\r\nData editing & statistical analysis, one week.\r\nEthics in reproductive health research, one week.\r\nWriting & approval of proposal & protocols for research, 6 weeks\r\nLiterature search & writing of literature review, eight weeks.\r\nData collection, one calendar year at least.\r\nWriting research methodology, analysis of results, discussion & final layout of the thesis, six months.\r\nArrangement for evaluation, presentation & certification, two- four weeks.\r\n
